Georgian Election Commission Chair, US House Foreign Affairs Committee officials, USAID representatives discuss parliamentary elections

Preparations for Georgia’s October 26 parliamentary elections were discussed on Friday in a meeting between Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the Chair of the Central Election Commission of the country, members of a delegation from the United States House Foreign Affairs Committee, and representatives of the United States Agency for International Development.

The Commision said Kalandarishvili briefed the officials on use of electronic technologies  introduced for the elections, as well as a “large-scale [public] information campaigns and crucial novelties” implemented by the CEC.

Election Administration continues its meetings with international organisations and observer missions to ensure that they have comprehensive and precise information related to each emerging and vital issue. Cooperation with electoral stakeholders and informing them in a timely manner are considered as crucial components by Election Administration, having a positive impact on the electoral environment”, the CEC Chair said.

At today’s meeting, I thoroughly covered persistent challenges of the institution and influence of disinformation in the electoral process in addition to various crucial issues. Short time remains before the October 26 Elections. Accordingly, the Administration spares no effort to conduct the October 26 Elections in compliance with international and European standards”, he added.
