Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday unveiled the restored Soviet-era historic cable car line connecting Rustaveli Avenue and Mtatsminda Park in the capital city of Tbilisi.

I would like to congratulate everyone on the successful restoration of the historic cable car. This remarkable project has been implemented and completed, and it will benefit every citizen of Tbilisi and our country as a whole”, Kobakhidze said.

The Prime Minister said the initiative provided “valuable opportunities” for the city’s growth and appeal to foreign visitors.

Such projects are necessary for the development of the city. We are all proud of our extraordinary capital, and taking care of this city is the duty and responsibility of each of us”, Kobakhidze added.

He also commended the “high-quality” execution of the project, attributing its success to the efforts of Tbilisi City Hall and its management. He thanked Mayor Kakha Kaladze for bringing the project to fruition.

The cable car line opened in 1959 and passed by the Mtatsminda Pantheon, a burial site for recognised public figures.
