The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia on Wednesday said it had brought charges against one individual for physical abuse against a minor in the country’s Black Sea city of Batumi.

The investigation, carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, established that on September 10, a dance teacher had physically assaulted the minor at the Adjara Youth Palace, as a result of which the underage student suffered minor injuries, the body noted.

It also said the Batumi City Court had allowed bail for the accused in the amount of ₾ 2,000 ($734) as a preventive measure, adding the teacher had been discharged from employment.

The crime is punishable by up to two years of imprisonment.
