The Israeli Embassy in Georgia and the Jewish community in the country’s capital Tbilisi on Monday commemorated the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 terrorists attacks in Israel.
The Embassy said the commemoration involved lighting candles in front of the Great Synagogue in Tbilisi to “remember each victim and call for the return of our 101 hostages who are still in Hamas's claws”.
In her comments, Ambassador Hadas Meitzad emphasised the “duty to remember and inform the world” on the events of October 7, while also highlighting the “importance of unity in the global combat against terrorism and antisemitism”.
Meitzad pointed out the “need for the immediate release of all hostages” taken during the attacks “without any preconditions”, noting they had been held captive for a year in “inhumane conditions”.
The Ambassador also expressed optimism that the Jewish New Year, which began last week, would be “blessed”, bringing “good news to Israel and Ukraine” amid the ongoing Russia’s invasion of the latter.
The event was attended by Georgian Government officials, diplomatic corps and Jewish community members.
