Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the electoral office of the ruling Georgian Dream party and Prime Minister, on Monday highlighted the ruling party’s “strong team”, which he said was the “main guarantee” for the country’s economic development.

In his address at the presentation of the ruling party’s election programme ahead of the October 26 parliamentary elections, Kobakhidze noted that “only policy, freedom, and peace” were not enough for the development of the economy.

Only politics, only freedom are not enough for the economy to develop, and only peace is not also enough for this. We have a very strong team and this is the main guarantee that we continue to take care of the development of the country's economy”, Kobakhidze said.

The head of the Government also added that the “main factor” of economic growth was “effective” economic policy, “efficient” legislation that “promotes and supports business development”.

Another factor is the freedom of business. You remember the situation in our country before 2012 [during the former United National Movement Government]. Business racketeering and terror were prevalent during the former [UNM] governance and [now] this situation has changed drastically. Today, business is completely free, which, of course, affects the growth of the economy. Peace and stability are another factor. The fact that we have managed to maintain peace is certainly a leading factor in ensuring economic growth”, he noted.

The head of the electoral office of the ruling party further emphasised “political stability” in the country by saying “we had some difficulties, but even on the backdrop of these obstacles we have managed to seriously strengthen the economy”.

Kobakhidze also noted that “in the coming years, after the stabilisation of the political situation in our country, the economy will be further strengthened”.

He also highlighted the role of the ruling team in the process, saying “this team will continue to work actively in the future to maintain rapid economic progress”.
