Georgian Public Defender Levan Ioseliani on Saturday welcomed the Central Election Commission’s decision to ensure the participation in the October 26 parliamentary elections of citizens registered in the Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions and currently residing abroad, which in case of the registration by October 7 would be included in the unified voters list.
Ioseliani pointed out it was “fundamentally important” that no citizen of Georgia “be left without the right to participate in the elections, inside or outside the country”, the Public Defender’s office said.
The CEC's decision followed an official appeal from the Public Defender’s office on Friday, which also involved the opposition parties.
