Kakha Kaladze, the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said the country was finding itself facing “intense pressure” due to the Government’s refusal to “open a second front” against Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine or join sanctions on the Kremlin for its invasion of the former state.
“First, we did not start a war [with Russia], we did not open a second front in the country, and we did not join the sanctions”, Kaladze noted, adding either of these actions would have been “devastating for our country and people”.
Addressing an audience at the opening of a club of GD party supporters in the run-up to parliamentary elections later this month, the Secretary General stressed the party was in power to “implement the policies our people and country need” since it had been “elected to carry out [such a] policy”.
The ruling party official said he expected “more absurd statements will intensify as the election date draws closer”, but added the “Georgian people will be victorious, as truth is on our side”.
Kaladze also noted the importance of opening the club as a “space where people will have the opportunity to gather and discuss various issues".
