Irakli Karkashadze, the Director of the United Airports of Georgia, highlighted the country’s “leading position” in the European region in terms of the measures carried out in Georgian civil aviation, which was “highly” evaluated by the recent aviation security audit of the International Civil Aviation Organisation, the UAG said on Thursday.
While delivering his speech at the Conference of Aviation Security in the Modern Era in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Karkashadze noted Georgia had “successfully” passed the ICAO’s aviation security audit and improved its security oversight performance, making up 89.75 percent, which “is the result of our correct policy” implemented in this direction at the Georgian airports.
He also emphasised the conclusion of the aviation security audit “indicate that Georgia provides high standards of protection of passengers, crew members and service personnel from acts of terrorism or other illegal activities”, and added the country’s state authorities, involved in the “safe operation” of civil aviation, were taking “all necessary” measures to protect the airports and aircraft against “any possible attacks”.
“Georgia firmly maintains its leading position in the European region, which has a positive impact on the country’s reputation, the aviation and tourism sectors, that also increases the attractiveness of the country on the aviation market”, he added.
The three-day Conference, which was organised by NUCTECH, one of the leading Chinese security inspection products companies in the world, was attended by representatives of aviation and airport authorities of Central Asia and South Caucasus.
The NUCTECH has equipped 450 airports worldwide for security, including the international and domestic airports of Georgia.
