Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said his Government would continue supporting tourism projects, emphasising their role in boosting employment, economic growth, and development of regions, in comments at the presentation of a new hotel and recreational complex project in the eastern town of Sioni.
I am delighted to be here today and to attend the presentation of this exceptional project. An outstanding hotel complex is being built, and all the necessary conditions will be created for people to have the opportunity to relax”, he said.
The location is extraordinary, as many of us have spent our childhood on Lake Sioni, and an environment has been created which provides the best opportunity for the ideal development of the hotel infrastructure”, Kobakhidze added.
The Prime Minister highlighted the growth in the sector, saying the number of hotels had tripled over the past 12 years.
There were about 800 hotels operating across the country in 2012 and today, there are approximately 1,600 hotels contributing to the sector. This growth has led to the addition of 85,000 new hotel accommodations, compared to only 23,000 twelve years ago”, Kobakhidze said.
He also emphasised the success of the tourism sector was “integral to the country's overall success”.
