Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, on Thursday said there was “no better place to celebrate” the World Tourism Day “than in the stunning city of Tbilisi”, which “beautifully showcases how tourism connects cultures and fosters peace”, ahead of the World Tourism Day event.

The Georgian capital city of Tbilisi will host its first celebration of the World Tourism Day, an annual event held under the auspices of the UN World Tourism Organisation and marked since 1979, on Friday.

Government officials, representatives of international organisations and the tourism industry from around the world will be hosted in the city, with discussion panels focusing on global tourism trends and the role of peace in fostering industry development.

The decision to grant the city the hosting right was unanimously approved by 38 members of the European Commission of the WTO in 2023.
