Georgian Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze on Monday said the southern town of Akhaltsikhe would welcome its first “modern-standard” sports complex, with construction works nearing completion.

The construction of the Akhaltsikhe sports complex is currently in progress, which is crucial for promoting a healthy lifestyle in the region. This will be the first sports complex in [the town] to include two swimming pools. The main pool is designed for synchronised swimming and water polo, while a smaller pool is being built for both adults and children”, Karseladze said.

In addition to two swimming pools, the upcoming facility will feature halls for exercise, weightlifting, boxing and wrestling, with each equipped with dedicated changing rooms and showers. The Minister said the complex would be fully adapted for people with disabilities.

Karseladze highlighted the facility’s potential to foster development of various sports and serve as a venue for national and international tournaments.

With 90 percent of the construction works completed, the sports complex is on track to enter a test mode by the end of the year.
