Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday claimed the opposition United National Movement party was “seeking to stage provocations” in the country ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26.
Kobakhidze called on the public to “be very vigilant”, and further vowed his Government would “take all measures to prevent the collective” United National Movement opposition from staging the alleged provocations.
I call on the public to be very vigilant, very careful, and nobody should allow such provocations to be staged. In all cases, the state will take all measures to prevent the collective United National Movement from staging provocations”, the PM said.
The Government head further claimed the public had “seen that the opposition does not have any resources for renewal”.
“Everyone has seen that the opposition has no resources for renewal. Again, [we see] these old faces, including people [involved] in crime - these are the [electoral] lists of the opposition”, he noted.
The PM alleged that unspecified groups were “dreaming of staging a revolution” in the country, and further pointed out that “Georgian citizens and the Georgian Government will not allow them to realise these plans”.
