Employees of the Emergency Management Service of Georgia completed a seven-day training programme in forest fire prevention, conducted by the Fire and Rescue Service of Czechia, the Georgian body said this week.
The training course, held in Dusheti municipality in eastern Georgia, included both theoretical and practical parts, with the participants also discussing topics related to dynamics of forest fires, rescue and fire fighting tactics, methods of providing first aid, and more.
Financed by the Czech Government, the training also involved the United Nations Development Programme, which cooperated with the municipality to “bolster the resilience of mountain communities and forest ecosystems against climate-induced hazards”, the UNDP in Georgia said.
The initiative aims to enhance the planning and implementation of wildland, rural and forest fire prevention and preparedness measures in the Aragvi Protected Landscape and the Pshav-Khevsureti National Park”, it added.
An off-road quad bike, firefighting equipment and protective gear was also handed over to the Service within the project.
