The preparatory process for the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26 was discussed on Tuesday between representatives of the Georgian Central Election Commission and a visiting delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the CEC said.

Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the Chair of the Commission, briefed the officials about activities the election administration had been carrying out to conduct elections at a “high professional level in accordance with international standards”, the body noted.

The Chair pointed out observance of principles of transparency and publicity was “vital”, adding the administration would support international observers in executing their missions “as much as possible”.

The meeting also reviewed large-scale implementation and use of electronic technology in the electoral process.

The PACE delegation is headed by Iulian Bulai, the Chair of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and is holding meetings with officials, civil sector organisations and media during their visit.
