EasyJet, a British budget airline, will launch direct flights from London, Geneva, and Milan to Tbilisi International Airport in the Georgian capital starting in the spring of 2025, the Ministry of Economy of Georgia said on Thursday.
The flights will be carried out twice a week, the body said, with the first flight from Geneva to Tbilisi taking place on March 31, while direct flights from London and Milan launching on April 1.
Irakli Karkashadze, the Director of the United Airports of Georgia, said entry of another European airline into Georgia represented a “recognition of the country’s airline market’s competitiveness, which would have a “significant impact on our tourism potential”.
Negotiations with the airline over the launch of operations in Georgia were not simple. However, we are pleased that we achieved the best result, and easyJet, a British multinational budget airline, will begin flights to Georgia from three European locations at the same time”, he added.
Karkashadze noted the destinations represented “strategic directions” for the airport’s body and expressed hope passenger flow and international visitor numbers would be “significantly” increased from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Italy in the future.
Founded in 1995, the airline serves flights to 1,000 destinations in 35 countries.
