Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Economy Minister of Georgia, on Wednesday said the planned launch of flights to Tbilisi by British Airways, the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, next year would improve the country's connectivity not only with the UK but also with the United States.
The airline's partnership with American Airlines through a ‘cod-share’ arrangement will greatly enhance transit connections for passengers travelling to Georgia and the US via the UK”, she said.
The Deputy Minister noted the entry of the airline company to Georgia represented a “significant milestone” for the country’s tourism and aviation industries.
Thanks to the direct flights, we anticipate that awareness of Georgia will increase in the UK. We are planning active marketing campaigns to boost our country's tourist potential and visibility, aiming to attract even more tourists from the UK”, she said.
Kvrivishvili noted the private sector in the country was also poised to benefit from increased promotion and tourist influx from the UK.
The Ministry of Economy said the agreement with British Airways to launch direct flights to Georgia was the result of “years of dedicated efforts” by the Government.
The flights will be carried out four times a week, the body added.
