The eastern winemaking Kakheti region of Georgia is experiencing a “record grape harvest”, with 78,000 tonnes of grapes processed as of Thursday, the Wine Agency of the country said.
The processed product includes about 35,000 tonnes of the Rkatsiteli variety and 34,000 tonnes of Saperavi.
The body added harvest was taking place across all municipalities of the region, involving about 80 companies and wineries, with the daily processing rate exceeding 10,000 tonnes.
The Agency said about 6,500 farmers had already stored their crop.
In light of the “record-high” harvest of 300,000 tonnes projected for this year, the Government is offering subsidies to promote the sale of grape harvest by winegrowers. This initiative is expected to benefit over 20,000 farmers looking to sell their harvest.
