The grape harvest is in full swing in Georgia’s winemaking region of Kakheti, with up to 13,000 tonnes already processed as of Monday, the Ministry of Agriculture said.

The processed product includes about 7,500 tonnes of the Rkatsiteli variety and 2,300 tonnes of Saperavi.

Stipulated by the quality of grapes, the prices are currently fixed at ₾1.07 per 1 kg of Rkatsiteli and ₾1.30-1.40 per 1 kg of Saperavi.

In a bid to bolster the sale of grape harvest by winegrowers, the Government has announced harvest subsidies. This initiative is expected to benefit over 20,000 winegrowers looking to sell their harvest, while also enabling 500 companies involved in the harvest to acquire and process grapes “seamlessly”.

The forecast for this year's grape harvest stands at 300,000 tonnes, the Ministry said.

The grape harvest in the country’s Racha-Lechkumi region will start in the first half of October, which is known for its Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties. The semi-sweet Georgian red wine of Khvantchkara is made from these grape varieties.
