Independent MP joins Gakharia for Georgia opposition party ahead of elections

Teona Akubardia, an independent MP, on Thursday joined the opposition Gakharia for Georgia party led by the former Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia.

In his remarks, Gakharia highlighted Akubardia’s “professionalism” by saying she had “worked in the security field for a long time and is a very reputable, experienced professional”.

Our team in the Parliament of Georgia and Teona as an independent MP have cooperated very effectively - they have jointly presented several initiatives - and, as a logical continuation of all this, we will participate in the October 26 elections together”, he said.

In her turn, Akubardia said she had joined the group because “without this party, [the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party] Bidzina Ivanishvili's defeat and Georgia's victory are impossible”.
