Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who leads the electoral office of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Sunday said citizens must make a choice between returning to the “dark past” and the country’s “bright, European future”, in reference to the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26.

In his speech at a campaign meeting in Georgia's north-western city of Ambrolauri, Kobakhidze noted the country facing the “most important” elections.

On October 26, a referendum of exactly the same importance as the one held in 2012 will be held. This is a referendum where Georgian citizens must choose between war and peace, between a rule by an agent network  and sovereign power of a democratic Georgia, between propaganda of blasphemy and moral values, between a return to the dark past and Georgia's bright, European future. In this situation, the choice is very easy”, he said.

Kobakhidze further highlighted the role of Bidzina Ivanishvili - the founder and Honorary Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party - in “maintaining peace and stability in the country”.

If it wasn't for Bidzina Ivanishvili, I don't even want to imagine where Georgia would have been today. Today, Georgia would have been in a much more difficult situation than our friendly country Ukraine”, Kobakhidze continued.

The Prime Minister stressed that the Georgian Dream party had left behind a “regime” - in reference to the United National Movement governance - that “tortured people in and outside prisons, robbed businessmen, took away TV stations from their rightful owners, rigged elections and lost the Tskhinvali region and Abkhazia as a result of their treacherous crimes”.

“October 26 is our day, and on that day, peace and Georgia's bright, European future will win. Georgia will certainly prevail on October 26”, he noted.

The PM added that the Georgian Dream party was the only Government since the restoration of the country’s independence during which the country had not had a war.
