Georgian Parliament official, South Korean National Assembly Vice Chair discuss ties

Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday met Joo Ho-young, the Vice Chair of the South Korean National Assembly, and members of the body, to discuss existing relations between the two countries and the potential for strengthening cooperation.

The meeting reviewed prospects for deepening economic and trade relations, as well as enhancing cultural and educational exchanges, with the officials highlighting the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties between the two countries.

We have initiated talks with South Korea on a free trade agreement. It was suggested that these negotiations will conclude very soon”, Samkharadze said.

The discussions also touched on the introduction of a visa-free travel for Georgian citizens to South Korea and the opening of the full-fledged [Korean] Embassy in Georgia by the end of the year”, he added.

The officials also discussed security matters in the wider region and global challenges, while also emphasising the “difficult situation” in Georgia's Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).
