Georgian and South Korean officials on Tuesday held negotiations on a free trade agreement in Seoul with prospects of strengthening trade and economic ties between the two countries and increasing exports of Georgian products to the Korean market, the Georgian Ministry of Economy said.
Genadi Arveladze, the Deputy Economy Minister, said the discussions would accelerate the negotiation process.
Georgia sees South Korea as an important trade and economic partner in the Asian region. The country is a potential market for Georgian products such as wine, mineral waters and food products. We also hope to enhance cooperation in other areas such as tourism, civil aviation, transport and logistics and information technology”, he said.
The Ministry said the bilateral meetings would conclude on Wednesday, with the second round of negotiations to be held in May.
The first round took place in Georgia in February, with the Ministry calling its results “promising”, with “significant progress” made on “several important topics”.
The first round of negotiations on economic partnership between Georgia and South Korea has opened in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi, the Ministry of Economy said on Tuesday.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Chey Tae-won, the Chair of the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry and also, the Chair of the SK Group, on Saturday discussed cooperation in various fields and reviewed prospects of deepening future partnership.
Georgia and South Korea will launch negotiations for signing a partnership agreement deepening trade and economic ties between the countries this year, the Ministry of Economy of Georgia announced on Tuesday.
The Korea Herald on Tuesday published an interview with the Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Genadi Arveladze on prospects of a free trade agreement between South Korea and Georgia and benefits the deal would bring the two countries.
