Georgia’s Special Investigation Service on Wednesday said it had arrested a 45-year-old citizen of Turkey for disclosure of confidentiality of personal information and sexual extortion.
The Service said the arrested individual had dated a 24-year-old woman and secretly filmed their sexual intercourse, before secretly transferring the intimate photo and video material to his phone.
After their breakup, the alleged offender requested the victim to restore their relationship, and released her intimate videos to her family members and acquaintances using social media following her refusal.
The body said the offender had created fake social network pages under the victim and her family member’s names, where he “systematically posted intimate photo and video material” of the woman between 2022 and 2024.
It also added the arrested individual wrote to strangers in the victim's name and provided her contact information and sent intimate files, leading to her being contacted by the men.
The victim addressed the Service for assistance, with the alleged perpetrator arrested and files containing personal information seized along with a mobile phone containing addresses of the social media pages used in the offence.
The Service added the crime was punishable by imprisonment for eight years, with the investigation ongoing.
