Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, on Tuesday said the passenger traffic flow had “significantly” increased in the three domestic international airports, calling this surge “a record high”.

Tbilisi Airport in the Georgian capital served a total of 519,275 passengers, marking a 29 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year, while Batumi Airport in the Black Sea city served 48 percent more passengers compared to the data of 2023, Kvrivishvili noted.

She pointed out that western Georgia's Kutaisi International Airport had also witnessed a “historic peak” of passenger traffic over seven months of 2024, serving about one million passengers, and added most of the flights to European countries, with around 30 destinations, were operated by the Kutaisi Airport, the Economy Ministry said.

Kvrivishvili also noted the country was conducting negotiations with partner air companies to bring new airlines to Georgia’s air market and increase the frequency of the flights to the especially “strategic” destinations, naming the Austrian Airlines operating flights between Tbilisi and Vienna and the Dutch Transavia Airlines carrying out flights between the country’s capital and Amsterdam.

She assessed the summer tourism sector in Georgia positively, calling it “successful”, and highlighted the record-high income, $1.9 million, received by the country from tourism as of the data of this year’s two quarters.

“These data are directly related to the diversification policy of target markets, the Georgian Government is conducting in both the tourism and civil aviation sectors”, Kvrivishvili noted and added that the country was carrying on “active marketing campaigns” to raise the awareness of Georgia at the international level.
