Giga Bokeria, the Chair of the opposition European Georgia party, on Thursday left the party over “disagreement and serious controversy concerning the way of conducting primaries”.

In his social media message, Bokeria noted both results of the primaries and especially his position as the Chair of the party were “unacceptable for a part” of the group.

In particular, I supported the team participating in the primaries, which over the last three years had contributed greatly to the implementation of important projects and the creation of new content of the party, which significantly increased the support of the European Georgia”, Bokeria said.

“Unfortunately, the Chair of the Political Council Gigi Tsereteli, the General Secretary Akaki Bobokhidze and a majority of members of the Political Council made a decision to allow undecided voters who did not want clear, public support for European Georgia to participate in the primaries”, he continued.

Bokeria further added the disagreement had “revealed a completely unexpected conflict of values” with Bobokhidze and his team.
