The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency has received a positive assessment and recommendations within the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument of the European Commission mission, the national body said on Monday.

This evaluation comes as a result of working meetings aimed at improving Georgian competition legislation and assessing its compatibility with relevant EU legislation, the Agency added.

TAIEX experts highlighted “institutional independence and strength” of the GCCA as an enforcement body, emphasising competence of its human resources.

Recommendations included improving state aid control mechanisms, updating guidelines for use of fines and raising awareness within a joint programme.

The body added experts from the EU-funded TWINNING project assessed the compliance of Georgia’s competition legislation with that of the bloc at 75 percent, up from 60 percent in 2022.
