The National Tourism Administration of Georgia promoted the country's potential in gastronomic tourism for the first time at the National Geographic Traveller Food Festival in London this weekend.

The Administration said four sessions of masterclasses of wine and food from the country were delivered at the event and included wine tasting and a kitchen show at the Georgian stand over two days.

"About 15,000 people visited the event during both days. The Georgian stand was in such a good location [that] you would have definitely come to the Georgian stand first, and you could not leave without being impressed", Maia Omiadze, the Head of the Administration, said.

Omiadze noted Great Britain was “one of strategic tourist countries”  for Georgia, adding cooperation with the National Geographic Society in the UK market would continue.

We have had marketing campaigns with The National Geographic [platform] for many years, but this year we tried such a concentrated campaign for the first time in the gastronomic direction, which will definitely continue and we think it will be very successful”, she added.

Popular chefs Guram Bagdoshvili and Tekuna Gachechiladze introduced traditional and modern Georgian dishes to visitors of the festival, while Irakli Cholobargia, a representative of the National Wine Agency, organised a tasting of Georgian wine.

The gastronomic event welcomed 50 organisations and companies, 60 chefs, speakers, authors and thousands of visitors in London.
