Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Thursday emphasised the “important role” of the national diaspora in the country’s development, calling it the “driving force of our country’s success”.
Speaking at a forum dedicated to Diaspora Day, Darchiashvili said ensuring inclusion of the diaspora in the country’s development was one of the Government's “top priorities”.
That is why the Ministry is constantly looking for support for diaspora organisations, our compatriots and improving mechanisms”, said the Minister, highlighting “active cooperation” with partner international organisations to deepen relations with the diaspora and adopt “best international practices”.
He also emphasised the importance of religious organisations in the diaspora and said Georgian parishes operating abroad served as a “unifying force” for the Georgian emigration, helping them maintain a “strong connection to their roots”.
The Minister also expressed gratitude to legislative and executive authorities, as well as international donor organisations, for their involvement in addressing diaspora-related issues.
The forum brings together high-ranking officials from the executive and legislative branches, representatives of the Patriarchate of Georgia and other participants.
The event will close on Friday with participants engaging in thematic groups to discuss education and culture, business and economy and the role of information as a success mechanism for the diaspora.
