Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Thursday warned against “Maidanisation” in the country, in reference to the protests in Kyiv between 2013 and 2014 that resulted in the Maidan Revolution in Ukraine.
Ionatamishvili stressed “Maidanisation” - which he alleged the domestic opposition was pursuing - would “never happen in Georgia”.
Maidanisation will never happen in Georgia, but when these people talk and dream about it in a coordinated manner, this is already the price of betrayal of this country. This is said by individual politicians, external actors, representatives of political NGOs, and it is clear that this is their common coordinated message, and thus they are ultimately establishing a registry of their own harmful nature and organisations”, he claimed.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said his Government would do “everything” to prevent “Maidan” and “Ukrainisation” in Georgia.
