Georgia’s Communications Commission: mobile operators’ revenue surged by $32.98mln in 2023

The Georgian National Communications Commission on Tuesday said mobile communications providers in the country had increased their revenue from retail services by ₾92 million ($32.98mln), to ₾788 million ($282.47mln) in 2023 compared to the previous year.
From the internet and mobile telecommunications operators, MagtiCom accounted for 49 percent of the total figure, with Silknet and Cellfie Mobile at 35 and 16 percent respectively.
The Commission said MagtiCom’s income from mobile services increased by ₾42 million ($15.06mln), to ₾385 million ($138.01mln) last year, while Silknet’s income increased by ₾35 million ($12.55mln), to ₾275 million ($98.58mln) and Cellfie Mobile numbers went up by ₾14 million ($5.02mln), to ₾127 million ($45.52mln).
The body added the monthly average revenue per user increased by eight percent last year, amounting to ₾12.8 ($4.59).
The 2023 report also said the highest share of mobile devices in Georgia was from Samsung last year, accounting for 37.3 percent - a 1.1 percent less than in 2022.
The Georgian National Communications Commission on Wednesday said the service for providing fixed internet at speeds of 100 Mbps was 136 percent more expensive in Georgia compared to European states, while costs for mobile internet packages with 10 GB of data and 1795 minutes of talk time were 35 percent higher in the country.
The High Technology and Innovation Development Centre of Tbilisi has become the first organisation in Georgia to receive the high-speed internet from the Starlink service after the latter’s official introduction to the country on Wednesday.
Georgia’s Economy Ministry and the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on Monday signed a memorandum of cooperation in information and communication, involving development of broadband internet technology in Georgia.
Eighty-nine percent of households in Georgia have internet access, an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to 2022 figures, the Survey on Information and Communication Technologies Usage in Households, published on Friday by the National Statistics Office of Georgia, has shown.
Georgia ranked 66th in the world for mobile internet connection speeds and 129th for fixed broadband in December, the latest update of figures in the online Speedtest by Ookla Global Index showed last week.
