Foreign ambassadors and international partners extended their messages of congratulation to Georgian citizens on the country’s Independence Day on Sunday.
The European Union Delegation in Georgia congratulated the country on May 26 and said the day “honours legacy and dedication of those who have strived for this day”, stressing the EU remained “a firm supporter” of Georgia's independence and territorial integrity.
The United States Embassy in Georgia extended their congratulations by saying “may you celebrate your hard-earned freedom and independence day happily”.
The United Nations in Georgia wished “Happy Independence Day to the people of Georgia”.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation office in Georgia wished happy Independence Day to Georgia as well.
In his social media post, Peter Fischer, the German Ambassador to the country, “warmly” congratulated Georgia on today’s Independence Day and said his country “stands firmly on the side of those who are committed to a free, peaceful and European Georgia”.
“Congratulations to all Georgians as they commemorate their independence as a pluralistic democracy on May 26th 1918”, the French Ambassador Sheraz Gasri said, affirming France’s support for Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity and independent choice for Europe.
The Italian Ambassador Massimiliano D’Antuono also extended his congratulations and support to Georgia.
The Czech Ambassador Petr Kubernat said “Georgia is an integral part of Europe and its future is in Europe” in his congratulatory post.
The Swedish Embassy in the country affirmed its continued support for Georgia’s sovereignty, freedom, unity and territorial integrity.
"Today, we celebrate the spirit and resilience of the Georgian people. May this Independence Day remind us all of the enduring values of freedom and democracy", the Norwegian Embassy said, wishing Georgians Happy Independence Day.
The Iranian Embassy in Georgia also congratulated the country on the national day.
The foreign offices of Poland, Ukraine, Armenia, Albania,Latvia and Turkey, as well as Romania, Kazakhstan, Slovenia, Serbia, Israel and Montenegro, extended their congratulations to the Georgian nation on Independence Day.
The Georgian Ambassador to the US David Zalkaniani said by the decision of the mayor of Washington Muriel Bowser, May 26 was declared as the Independence Day of Georgia in Washington.
Georgian Independence Day is a national holiday celebrated on May 26. It commemorates the adoption of the Independence Act in 1918, which established the Democratic Republic of Georgia in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution of 1917.
