Georgia’s Independence Day to be celebrated in more than 70 cities with various events

Georgia’s Independence Day, celebrated on May 26, will be marked in more than 70 cities of the world with various events in May and June, with the involvement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry and the country’s diplomatic missions abroad.

Folk concerts and performances of choreographic ensembles will be held in Spain, Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Moldova, with Sweden hosting Georgian singer Nutsa Buzaladze, who represented the country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

Traditionally, Manneken Pis, a landmark bronze fountain sculpture in central Brussels, will be wrapped in a Georgian traditional costume - Chokha. The festival dedicated to Georgian culture and art will also be held in the historical Leuville estate near Paris.

Vatican City will host the event dedicated to the legendary late Georgian composer Giya Kancheli. The Georgian festival will also be held in Seoul, where Georgian corner and lectures about the country will be organised, while Hungary is set to hold Adjara culture day.

The Georgian festival will also be hosted in Tokyo, with a ceremonial event organised for the opening of the first honorary consulate in Japan’s city of Kagoshima.

Exhibitions and screenings will be held in Italy, Bulgaria, Turkmenistan, Spain and Latvia. The events celebrating Georgia's Independence Day will also be organised in Austria, Luxembourg, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Geneva, Poland, Romania, Greece, Serbia, Istanbul, India, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, China, Cuba, and New York.

The Georgian flags will be raised on the San Francisco City Hall building and in the city centre in Ireland, while Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin will be illuminated in Georgian flag colours.

The sights in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda in Lithuania, the Georgian Embassy in Estonia, the historical building of Košice in Slovakia and fountain of Zagreb, as well as central square of Skopje, central square of Nicosia in Cyprus, Niagara Falls in Canada, Ottawa City Hall, the main sights of Mexico City, planetarium and cultural centre in Buenos Aires, Treasury Building in Sydney and Philae temple complex in Egypt will also be lit in the national colours of Georgia.

Indonesia, Korea, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia will also join the celebration by illuminating the landmarks in the Georgian flag colours.
