Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs on Thursday said the Special Purpose Aviation Department of its Border Police had received the second Airbus H145 helicopter designated for firefighting and mountain rescue operations.
The delivery of the aircraft comes from a purchase deal signed with Airbus Helicopters in December 2022, with the Ministry noting the H145 helicopter’s ability to operate at higher altitudes and its equipment with firefighting and mountain rescue hardware.
The handover of the latest aircraft was hosted at an Airbus plant in Germany, the body also said, while pilots and flight technicians of the Division also underwent theoretical and practical training at an Airbus Helicopters training academy in Germany and delivered the helicopter from the country.
The helicopter is distinguished by its operation at higher altitudes and is equipped with rescue facilities", Zurab Abramishvili, the Deputy Director of the Special Purpose Aviation Department of the Border Police, said.
The third H145 is scheduled to be delivered to Georgia by June.
