Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri on Wednesday told the country’s Parliament Airbus Helicopters had reduced the timeframes for delivering the H145 rotary-wing aircraft to Georgian authorities following talks.

Gomelauri told lawmakers one of the two purchased helicopters had already been handed over to the Border Police agency of the Ministry, with the remaining two units to be delivered “in the near future”.

The Minister said the “multifunctional” helicopters were capable of performing police, transport, search and rescue operations, and highlighted their manoeuvrability and “full compatibility” with operation in the mountainous terrain of the country.

Gomelauri also said pilots and flight technicians of the Special Purpose Aviation Division of the Border Police had undergone theoretical and practical training for operating the craft at an Airbus Helicopters training academy in Germany.
