Anri Okhanashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee, and visiting representatives of the Organisation for Security and Co-Operation in Europe’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights on Monday discussed changes in the domestic election code, related recommendations by the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission and the OSCE/ODIHR, and their implementation.

We reviewed details of the recent amendments in the Election Code. The visiting officials want to learn how our country has prepared for the parliamentary elections [in October]”, Okhanashvili said.

The Parliament’s press office cited the Committee Chair as saying the Government had “implemented all key recommendations” of the OSCE/ODIHR and the Commission.

Okhanashvili noted the Government had introduced automated vote-counting mechanisms, which he said “exclude any type of manipulation and the risk of election fraud”.

For the first time in the country, full-scale parliamentary elections will be held via electronic voting.
