Paweł Herczyński, the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, on Saturday said “peace, unity and diversity” were values “uniting the EU and Georgia”, in his speech at the event marking Europe Day in Tbilisi.
The Ambassador noted the EU wanted Georgia, “with its unique culture and traditions, to become a part of this unity”, adding the bloc would decide whether the country would take the next step towards membership in autumn and urged Georgians not to miss this opportunity.
This opportunity exists right now. Don’t miss it. Time is running out. It depends on you how you will use it. You create the future of Sakartvelo [Georgia]. Stay on the EU path. We are by your side”, he emphasised.
Herczyński said the Europe Day was celebrating the “success of 27 countries” with different histories and cultures, based on common values and pointed out the membership of the bloc meant “great number of opportunities for youth, economic prosperity for families and a dignified life for elderly people”.
The Europe Day event was hosted at the Expo Georgia fairgrounds, with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and representatives of the country’s executive branch, as well as the diplomatic corps attending the celebration.
