Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani, who is on an official visit to Romania, was on Wednesday hosted by his Romanian counterpart Angel Tîlvăr, after which the officials discussed cooperation in an extended format meeting.

The bilateral ties between the countries in defence, as well as Romania’s involvement in the implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package, were reviewed by the parties, the Defence Ministry said.

The sides focused on cooperation in various directions, defined by the joint declaration of strategic partnership between Georgia and Romania. The conversation also touched on the security environment in the Black Sea region.

Chikovani emphasised the importance of the support of the partner countries in strengthening Georgia's defence capability and Euro-Atlantic integration.

In a social media post, Georgia’s Ambassador to Romania Tamar Beruchashvili highlighted the “warm welcome” of the Georgian delegation at the country’s Ministry of National Defence.

After the meeting, Chikovani laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Bucharest.
