Georgian Parliament on Tuesday elected Giorgi Kalandarishvili as the Chair of the Central Election Commission with 85 votes in favour and 16 against.
Maia Zaridze, Giorgi Sharabidze and Gia Tsatsashvili were also elected as members of the Commission.
Speaker Shalva Papuashvili noted that in addition to the ruling Georgian Dream party, the submitted candidates enjoyed support of Girchi and European Socialists factions.
Candidates for the Chair and members of the Commission were selected by a commission created in the Parliament, with the nominees presented to the Parliament by the Speaker instead of the Georgian President.
The new format took force following recent legislative changes in regulations of the Commission.
