The Georgian foreign office on Sunday confirmed the death of a Georgian citizen in a stabbing attack at a shopping centre in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Saturday, which left six dead and at least 11 others injured.
The office expressed concern over the incident and extended its condolences to the family members of the deceased, as well as to the Australian Government and its people.
The Foreign Ministry also noted the Georgian Embassy in Australia was in contact with the family members of the Georgian citizen, who had dual citizenship and was also an Australian citizen, and added that “appropriate procedures” were underway.
A 40-year-old man, who was identified by the Australian police as Joel Cauchi, attacked people at a crowded mall on Saturday afternoon with a knife. The attacker was shot and killed by a police officer.
