The National Bank of Georgia will issue collector coins marking the Georgian national football team’s first-ever qualification for a major international tournament - UEFA Euro 2024 - with the defeat of Greece on Tuesday.
The NGB will work together with the Georgian Football Federation on the design of the collectible coin, the Bank announced on Wednesday.
Georgia’s national football team made history by beating Greece in the penalty shootout in the playoff final of the Euro 2024 at the Dinamo Arena stadium in Tbilisi.
The team is set to face Turkey on June 18 in their first match at the European tournament, with the Group also involving Portugal and the Czech Republic.
Ilia II, the Catholicos Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church, on Wednesday congratulated the country’s national football team on reaching the first-ever European Championship after their defeat of Greece in a penalty shoot-out in the final qualifier match for Euro 2024 in Tbilisi.
