Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said the “main national task” of his Government was to eradicate poverty and unemployment in Georgia.

Kobakhidze highlighted that over a million people had previously lived below the poverty line and currently the number was reduced from 1 150,000 to less than 600,000 and noted it was the “historic low” for the country.

He added despite having historically the best indicators in this regard, the Government could not be satisfied until “poverty is fully eradicated and the unemployment problem is finally overcome”.

The Head of the Government pointed out the role of “rapid economic growth”, including the “double-digit” growth in 2021 and 2022, in overcoming poverty and unemployment, and emphasised the importance of implementing large-scale infrastructure projects, construction of highways, development of ports and airports, in order to create more jobs in the country.

The PM also said the Government continued to work in all directions to ensure the creation of jobs in Georgia and to increase the wages of employees in the country.
