For the third year in a row, the Human Development Index of the United Nations Development Programme has put Georgia in the “Very High” human development category, positioning the country 60th out of 193 countries and territories.

The HDI is a summary measure for assessing average achievement in three basic dimensions of a “long and healthy life”, “access to knowledge” and a “decent standard of living”.

Between 2000 and 2022, Georgia's HDI value changed from 0.694 to 0.814, a change of 17.3 percent, the summary reads.

With this indicator, the country is ahead of European Union member Bulgaria and NATO members North Macedonia and Albania, while in the post-Soviet space it is ahead of Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

In his social media message Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said the country's "sustained progress" reflected "multifaceted efforts" in economic, social, and freedom of choice aspects.

He said since 2012 Georgia had made "significant strides", climbing 11 places in the Index.
