Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday highlighted the importance of the country’s European Union membership candidate status for the South Caucasus region.
The fact that Georgia has become a candidate for European Union membership is, of course, important not only for our country and citizens, but also for the [South Caucasus] region”, Garibashvili said at a press conference with the Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan.
Garibashvili noted December had been a “very important month” with the status being granted to the country by the European Council.
I would like to emphasise once again that it is necessary to continue working on projects of regional significance at a high pace”, he added.
The PM also noted Pashinyan had shown “interest” in initiatives such as the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project - intended to connect the grid of the region to those of EU countries - and other ideas the Government was “currently working on”.
