Georgian Parliamentary delegation joins EU conference on common security, defence policy

A Georgian delegation participated in the Inter-Parliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union for the first time this week.
The Parliament of Georgia on Thursday said representatives from the country had been invited by the presidency of the bloc for the two-day event between Thursday and Friday in Stockholm.
Priorities for the Common Security and Defence Policy and the Common Foreign and Security Policy are among the key and current topics of European security on the agenda, along with the Russian aggression against Ukraine”, the Georgian lawmaking body said in its press-release.
The Council of the EU has been hosting the Conference since 2012.
Romanian members of the Parliament on Wednesday expressed their support for Georgia's accession to the European Union and pledged to “actively” support the country in the process in their meeting with a Georgian Parliamentary delegation headed by Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Parliament’s EU Integration Committee.

Georgia has been supporting the principles of security in Europe and standing with its partners in ensuring international peace and stability, Irakli Beraia, the Chair of the Defence and Security Committee in the Georgian Parliament, said on Saturday in his address at the Inter-Parliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union.
Levan Karumidze, the First Deputy Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s European Integration Committee, said on Tuesday he hoped the members of the Georgian Parliament would agree on the bill on transparency of foreign influence that would be “acceptable” to the European Union and those citizens who had been working “tirelessly, honestly, honourably ” for the development of the country for years.
