Georgia’s CoE representative presents report on human rights situation in Russian-occupied territories

Tamar Taliashvili, Georgia’s representative to the Council of Europe, on Wednesday presented a report on the human rights situation in the Russian-occupied territories of the country at a meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the organisation.

Taliashvili provided the CoE Secretary General and member states with “detailed information” on security, human rights and humanitarian situation in the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions.

In her comments, she highlighted the 2021 ruling of the European Court of Human Rights that said Russia had violated several articles of the European Convention on Human rights during the 2008 conflict between the two countries and carried out ethnic cleansing of Georgians.
