Aluda Gudushauri, an MP for the ruling Georgian Dream Party, on Tuesday called on Russia to fulfil its obligations under the ceasefire agreement that ended the 2008 war between the countries and withdraw its troops from Georgian territory.

Gudushauri was commenting on a statement by Maria Zakharova, the Spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who on Monday demanded from Georgia a binding agreement on the non-use of force against the Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

I will remind them [Russian officials] that Russia has violated its obligations under the agreement and must fulfil them. [...] I would advise Zakharova to somehow remember the reality, and provide an answer on when her country is going to fulfil its obligations before Georgia”, Gudushauri said.

The ruling party MP stressed Zakharova's statement was “immoral, distorted” and “ignored the facts”.

Her country is occupying the territories of our country and has obligations to fulfil. If there is anything her country and [...] leaders should start ensuring, it is the timely fulfilment of [their] obligations”, he concluded in his comments.
