Police officers of the Main Division for Combating Organised Crime under the Georgian Interior Ministry’s Central Criminal Police Department have arrested one individual and charged two others for connections with “criminal underworld” and requesting help from “thieves-in-law”, the Ministry said on Saturday.

The state body said one of the accused had been already serving a sentence for similar crimes, and another was wanted by Interpol’s red circular.

The offenders were demanding money from individuals in the business sector in the name of “thieves-in-law”, and in case of disobedience threatened the victims with killing them, the body noted.

The investigation also established the culprits used unlawful surveillance photos to intimidate victims.

Crimes are punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
