Law enforcement officer arrested on charge of violence in southern Georgia

Georgia’s Special Investigation Service has arrested an officer from the Security Police Department of the country’s Interior Ministry on charge of violence in the Akhaltsikhe municipality of southern Georgia.
The alleged offender was implicated in three instances of violence in November, involving physical assault of individuals and repeat violence, the agency said on Thursday, adding the individual was arrested following a court ruling.
Responding to a complaint from a victim, the agency said it had obtained video camera recordings of the incidents, while a forensic medical examination revealed bruises and cuts on one of the victims.
Other pieces of evidence supporting the allegations against the officer were also gathered, leading to the arrest, it added.
The crime is punishable by up to two years in prison.
Georgia’s Special Investigation Service on Monday said it had charged 14 and arrested five individuals for disclosure of confidentiality of personal information in separate cases, and recovered files containing personal information of minors.
Georgia’s Special Investigation Service has been authorised to investigate violations of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, known as the European Convention on Human Rights, Koka Katsitadze, the agency’s Chair, told the Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee on Monday.
