Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, on Wednesday said the EP welcomed the European Commission’s recommendation on granting Georgia the European Union membership candidate status, as well as opening accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In her comments to the media before the EU-Western Balkans summit, Metsola noted the EP was “a firm supporter” of the EU expansion.
The EP President stressed the EU enlargement policy was “the most successful and powerful tool”, and “mutually beneficial for everyone”, adding that “giving hope” to the countries waiting for EU membership had to be followed by “tangible and concrete results”.
