Georgia’s European Union integration was discussed on Wednesday by Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, and Matthieu Combe, the Head of the Caucasus and Central Asia Department of French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, as well as Benoit Lerosey, the Head of the EU Foreign Relations Department of the Ministry.
The officials reviewed the European Commission’s recommendation to the European Council to grant Georgia the EU membership candidate status, as well as the country’s work on implementing the bloc's priorities.
The conversation also touched on the French side’s position on the Council’s meeting in December, where the final decision on Georgia’s candidacy will be announced, the Parliament press office said.
Botchorishvili reaffirmed Georgia’s aspirations “to continue with the reforms” to prepare for the EU membership and highlighted the importance of cooperation with the bloc member states in this process.
The Georgian Government’s upcoming steps on the European integration path were also emphasised by the Parliament Committee Chair, also noting that the Government had already approved the action plan to immediately respond to the EU recommendations.
